Make Up Tips for your Shoot or Wedding | Paris & Ireland Wedding Photographer
One of the best ways to prepare for your wedding, elopement or photoshoot is to hire an excellent make up artist. Luckily I know just the one for you! Sanni Sorma is excellent at her craft and will make you look and feel your very best! I can’t think of a better way to prepare to be in front of my camera :)
Sanni kindly answered some questions that are often asked, I hope they can be of some help to you!
Why is it important to have a professional make up artist for your wedding or photoshoot
So many reasons! ...but let’s start with looking your very best in the photos.
As you've hired a professional photographer, having a pro makeup artist helping you look amazing is a part of the experience you shouldn’t ignore. A professional makeup artist knows what looks good on camera, what shows up as 'natural & fresh' as opposed ‘where did my makeup go?’. The makeup artist will know the photographer style and can advise and adjust the level and intensity of the makeup s you get the desired final effect. And last but not least, a makeup artist helps you get into the right headspace for your shoot. I think it’s super important that your makeup artist helps you relax and have fun while you get pampered so you not only look but feel your very best.
Do you come to where I am getting ready or do I have to go to you?
I always come to you, wherever you might be. I don’t think adding the stress of travel for your big day is fair.
Do I need a trial?
It depends on you to be honest. I would say only about 30% of my brides have a trial. I work with on lot of destination weddings and I realise it is not always possible to have a trial and I always offer the bride the option to have a Zoom or a FaceTime call with me to talk through her look and get to know each other a little. Destination brides do sometimes have a trial the afternoon before the wedding, which then doubles up as a rehearsal dinner look - we of course change it up a bit not to give your whole look away before the big moment! : )
What should I do in the months and weeks before my wedding/shoot to prepare my skin?
Don't change anything too close to the wedding! Thats the first thing I always say. Especially if I have not met you or worked before with you, I really don’t feel comfortable getting you to change your skincare regime. If the wedding is less than 6 months away, keep to your tried and tested routine. Also this is a great time to really eat clean, drink loads of water and minimise stress (I know, I know … impossible before the wedding but do try) and get sleep.

Should I bring my own make up?
I come with everything, so please don’t worry about bringing your own makeup. Having said that, if you have a fave lipstick or a ‘can’t live without’ mascara of course I am really happy to use those. Also if you have a very specific allergy and you would prefer me to use your own cosmetics, I am happy to do that.
There will be a lot of kissing on my wedding day or during the shoot, is there any way to protect my lipstick?
No need to, I give you a touch up custom shade to take with you.
What if I have problem skin?
Seeing a dermatologist ahead of time is always my preferred route. Once you have worked with you dermatologist to get your skin into great shape, I would say that with pro makeup and a pro behind the lens your skin will look amazing in the photos.
Do I need touchups throughout the day?
Apart from lipstick and a some blotting papers, no… you’re good to go for the next 16h.
I have had a clients that have worn their makeup the next day. Not that I would recommend that, I do want you to take off your makeup every night… even if you love your look : ) !
What about my hair? Any pre shoot/wedding tips for best condition?
Starting to think about your hair well ahead of time is a good idea in case you need to cut it, grow it or colour it. Have a look at the photos you have collected of the hairstyles you like. Do they work with your hair type? Would it be a good idea to get some high or low lights? Also have a trim a few weeks beforehand to get rid of any dry ends.
On the day it will depend on the style you go for if the hair should be just washed or a day old. There is no one size fits all for hair prep.
